HOPE.

It is a small word that holds the power to transform a seemingly impossible situation into one that is
manageable.  Hope is what inspires us, motivates us and carries us through difficult times.  To have hope is to
believe that change is possible, despite our past experience or current pain.

As a therapist, I strive to bring a strong sense of hopefulness to each of my clients and to create an atmosphere
where they find it within.  I focus on clients’ strengths and abilities as much as their concerns.  My work is
guided by a deep appreciation for the complex and integrated wholeness of human beings: the connections
between the mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and relational aspects of life.  Care is taken to insure that
sessions reflect client’s goals and facilitate positive change.
Hope begins in the dark; the stubborn hope that if you just
show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come.
You wait and watch and work.
You don't give up.

Choosing a Counselor.

If you have reached this website, chances are that you are in the process of choosing a counselor. My first
hope for clients is that they will find a counselor that is a good fit for them.  This is important because the
process of psychotherapy is a very personal one.  Research and experience tell us that the greatest predictor
of therapeutic success is the quality of the relationship between the counselor and client.  It is more important
than theoretical orientation, techniques or credentials.  So if you don’t feel you are making a positive
connection with your counselor in the first few sessions, try another one.  No therapist can be perfect for
everyone.

At its best, psychotherapy is a life-changing collaborative relationship that is inspiring, nurturing, energizing,
challenging and authentic.  This is my desire for everyone seeking therapy.  At its worst, it can be a
disappointing use of your time and resources.  You deserve more than that;  don’t give up until you find it.
