An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

"Wellness" has become a buzz-word lately, but what does it really mean?  To a company it means reduced insurance costs; to a community it can mean greater employability and viability; to a family it means less heartache, and to an individual it means greater quality of life.

One of my wellness mentors, Dr. Myron Wentz, has said that we are "Living too short, and dying too long,"  and I have to agree with him.  It is evident in the statistics that chronic illnesses account for 75 percent of our national spending on health care, and that 80 percent of these chronic illnesses are preventable through lifestyle and behavior changes.  Even more alarming is the explosion of Type II diabetes in the U.S. and the dire prediction that the next generation will be the first to precede their parents in death.  All of this directly related to nutrition and lifestyle, and all of it preventable.

As someone who lost both parents in their sixties from cancer and a heart attack, I am passionate about promoting comprehensive wellness.  Over the last two years I have worked to expand my knowledge base around bio-nuitrition and the possibilities for prevention of chronic degenerative diseases of mind and body.  My study of cellular nutrition also led me to the opportunity to be part of Team Northrup

While my own definition of wellness is continually being re-shaped as I learn, these are the factors that differentiate a wellness mindset from a disease model of health:

  • Focus on preserving health
  • Being proactive
  • Personal responsibility
  • Holistic in nature
  • Lifestyle oriented

These are values that I believe in and promote in all aspects of my work.   Positve change is within our reach, one step at a time.

There is no limit to what we can do ~ together.
